Thousands of people in Denver will be celebrating the New Year by going out to bars and parties. Unfortunately, New Year’s Eve is one of the most dangerous days of the year since there is a significant number of drunk drivers on the road.
That is why starting at 7 PM on December 31, 2019, through 7 AM on New Year’s Day 2020, free rides will be offered on all Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus and rail routes to help residents and visitors alike to avoid drunk driving or being involved in a drunk driving accident. In addition, this also applies to SkyRide and Access-a-Ride services.
For the 12th year in a row, a partnership between RTD, Coors Distributing Company and Coors Light has made these free rides available for Denver and Colorado residents and visitors. Since 2007, the program has been responsible for over 1.6 million safe rides throughout the state.
Keep in mind, the L Line service will be suspended, and no light rail trains will cross 16th street, between 8 PM and after midnight once the crowds dissipate after the fireworks show in downtown. Additional train trips will be added on all downtown lines (i.e. C, D, E, F, H, and W) between midnight and 2 AM. Additional commuter rail trips will depart Union Station in the early morning hours of January 1 on the University of Colorado A B, and G Line.
